MAHANA, Los Angeles, insurance man, died late Wednesday afternoon at the Glendale home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William L. HAWES, after a lingering illness. During the last few weeks of the famous Green-Mahana suits, which were fought in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, Nevada courts recently, Mrs. MAHANA has been in a very critical condition. Her death was hastened, her intimate friends say, by worry over her domestic trouble and her fight to retain custody of her children. At the time of her death her parents and Dr. A. L. OBEAR were at her bedside. The funeral services will be Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Jewel City undertaking parlors at Glendale. Following the recent suits and while Mrs. MAHANA lay at the point of death at her father's home, her attorney stated that in the case of Mrs. MAHANA's death the three children would be placed in the custody of her parents, according to a request made by her will. Mr. HAWES, the father, stated over the telephone last night that the children will probably remain at his Burbank home, but that no fight would be waged to retain the custody of them. Mr. MAHANA stated over the telephone late last night that he will undoubtedly be given custody of the children. "Mr. and Mrs. HAWES informed me this evening," he states, "that the children would be placed in my custody. This will take place as soon as the transfer of the children's custody will be convenient to the family." Charles L. CHANDLER, an attorney and a very intimate friend of Mrs. MAHANA's family, stated that he did not believe the children would be turned over to Mr. MAHANA. - Los Angeles Times.
