HEROIC EFFORTS FAIL TO SAVE HIS LIFE (Special Correspondence) Overton, Nev., Aug. 20, 1920 Our Valley was called to mourn the sad death of Calvin NAY last week. Mr. NAY met his death while digging a well on his farm on the Virgin river three miles from St. Thomas, the well being about 18 ft. deep. Mr. NAY was down in the well when the timber gave way which were bracing it, burying him underneath with tons of quicksand on top of him. His son Allan commenced digging for him, while help was rushed from town. About twenty men worked heroically with the hope of rescuing him alive, when, within almost three feet of him, the second cave-in came, thus causing them to give up all hope. They worked all night long before they were able to remove his lifeless body from the well. Mr. NAY has resided in Nevada many years and was well and favorably known for his kindly manner and good deeds in this and Las Vegas Valleys. He leaves a wife and {# illegible} children, besides many friends and relatives, who mourn with them the sad death of their husbnd and father.
