TOOLEY AT HER OREGON HOME Mrs. J. J. TOOLEY, for about 10 years one of the best beloved women of Las Vegas, and for the past three years a resident of Oregon, died at the family home in Roseburg, Oregon, Sunday, February 1, of pneumonia following influenza. The sad news came in a message to the daughter, Mrs. H. A. ENGLISH, received Monday, about the same time she received a letter from her mother telling of her illness, but saying that she was getting along nicely. Mrs. TOOLEY leaves surviving her besides her husband, Mr. J. J. TOOLEY, three daughters: Mrs. H. A. ENGLISH of this city; Mrs. Marguerite PHILLIPS of Roseburg, Oregon, and Miss Josephine TOOLEY, now residing at Portland, Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. TOOLEY came to Las Vegas soon after the town was opened, Mr. TOOLEY being for many years thereafter a conductor on the Las Vegas & Tonopah Railway. Here they raised their three daughters to womanhood, and here the daugher Marguerite was married to George PHILLIPS who also was a victim of the influenza scourge, being among the first to succumb in October, 1918. Mrs. TOOLEY was an earnest worker in the Espicopal church and an active member of Southgate Chapter of the Eastern Star during her residence here. She was a woman of unusually beautiful character and her passing brings sadness to many hearts. We voice the sentiment of the entire community in expressing our deep sympathy in the grief stricken family.
