GUITERREZ, a miner in the employ of the Nevada Lime and Rock Company at Sloan, lost his life Monday afternoon by the explosion of a slow or "missed" hole. A number of holes for a blast had been loaded and all workmen ordered from the danger zone when the holes were fired. One of the shots failed to explode with the others, and without waiting the usual time, GUITERREZ went to the hole and began to clean it out. He received the full force of the explosion and was terribly mutilated. The injured man was immediately taken in an automobile for the purpose of bringing him to the Las Vegas Hospital, but he died before this city was reached. Coroner LILLIS immediately went to Sloan to inquire into the circumstances of the accident. An inquest was held here Tuesday; the coroner's jury being H. J. WOODARD, foreman, J. M. KEITH and Willard CLAYTON. The verdict found: "That he came to his death on the third day of October by an explosion caused by his returning to a supposed missed hole without giving it a reasonable time to cool, and entering said hole he began to clean it out, when the explosion occurred causing his death. This was done against the advice of his fellow workmen and against the general rules of the management of the Nevada Lime and Rock Company, where he worked and was injured."
