He had been racing his monoplane C-1 against Kenneth MONTEE in a French Nienport pursuit plane, the two planes circling the field neck and neck at the rate of 140 miles an hour. ROGERS was flying only fifteen feet above the ground and swerved upward to a thirty foot level for the turn. Instead of straightening out the plane careened to one side and fell to the ground, a mass of twisted wreckage. ROGERS was carried to the Hollywood Emergency Hospital where he died ten minutes after being placed on the operating table. He was one of the best known flyers in the West, having gained much distinction as an expert aviator during the World War. He has recently been at the head of the ROGERS Aircraft Corporation, being associated with Mr. WEBSTER and W. P. HALLIDAY. His home was at Santa Monica where he has a wife and two children.
