He was 70. TAYLOR was a member of two four-man crews that started the county fire department, along with a fire chief, in 1953. "I know him because my grandfather was the fire chief at the time and TAYLOR was the captain of the B Platoon," said Capt. Bill TRELEASE. "After he served as captain for a few years he started the training division and he was the first training officer." TAYLOR also worked as a battalion chief before he retired as assistant chief. "He (TAYLOR) was the first fiefighter Chief TRELEASE hired. He was hired on as captain. They worked with volunteers until they got more paid firefighters." said Capt. Roy WALCH, who has been with the fire department for 35 years. "He was my first captain on B Platoon when I was hired in 1956." WALCH said TAYLOR was an excellent captain and also was a cowboy who worked with youngsters on his days off. TAYLOR organized the Sunrise Riders Family Rodeo Club and the Boots and Britches Rodeo Association for Children. "He worked with a lot of kids and he taught a lot of them how to ride and rope. He was good guy; always willing to help whoever needed it." "He was also a good cook. He did a lot of cooking for the Sunrise Rider club," WALCH said. After 23 years of service with the fire department, TAYLOR moved to Alamo where he tended cattle on his ranch, about 100 miles north of Las Vegas. TAYLOR was born June 25, 1921, in Nebraska. During World War II he served with the Marine Corps. He moved to Las Vegas in 1949. After retirement, TAYLOR tried his hand at politics in 1972, running for the state Assembly. He was not elected. He is survived by [omitted] Memorial Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Ward Chapel in Alamo.
