H. VIRDIN, who died last Sunday, was the last surviving member of the first constitutional convention that met in Nevada in November, 1863, to draft a State Constitution [and] was overwhelmingly defeated in the subsequent election. This was the convention at which Mark Twain was a reporter for the Territorial Enterprise of Virginia City, and it was his first attempt at humorous writing for the press, it is said. He reported to his paper that the prayers were ordered dispensed with because the members never listened to them anyway.
