MC NAMEE Sr., one of the founding fathers of Las Vegas, died at her home in Pasadena, Calif. on Wednesday. She was 85. Frank R. MC NAMEE, Sr., PATTERSON's grandfather, was a turn-of-the-century resident of Delamar, Nev. and attorney in Nevada for the Union Pacific Railroad which wanted at the time to construct a watering stop and repair facility in the then empty Las Vegas Valley. MC NAMEE secured the Union Pacific's water rights for the project by purchasing the rights from the major ranches here at the time, the Kyle, Stewart and Cottonwood Springs ranches. Once its water rights were secured in 1905, the Union Pacific auctioned off townsite lots that became downtown Las Vegas. Effie MC NAMEE was born in Delamar but lived most of her life in Los Angeles and Pasadena. She is survived by [omitted] She was the twin sister of the late Frank R. MC NAMEE, Jr., a Nevada Supreme Court Justice in the 1950s and 1960s. He was chief justice of the state supreme court during most of the 1960s.
