P. SQUIRES of this city and Wert F. ANDERSON of Toppenish, Washington, aged 78 years, 5 months and 21 days. Mrs. ANDERSON was taken ill Saturday morning, June 30. All that loving care and skilled medical attention could suggest was done for her, but the weight of years and an enfeebled condition brought on by an illness of a few months ago were handicaps which she could not overcome. Death came to her quietly and peacefully a few minutes before four o'clock Thursday morning, July 5. A life that was ideal in its service to others and in its happy outlook on life has ended. Her companionable qualities and cheerful disposition made her always and every where beloved. To the last her fine qualities of mind were unimpaired. She was a devout and faithful follower of the teachings of Christ throughout her life and it is now surely her privilege to hear the "Well done," of her Savior and the echo of the same words in the hearts of all those who were so furtunate as to know her. Funeral services were held at the undertaking chapel Thursday evening, the service of the Order of the Eastern Star being beautifully carried out by members of Southgate Chapter, O.E.S., of which she was a member, Past Worth Matron Julia B. MUNDY, acting as Matron. A wealth of beautiful flowers sent by loving friends covered the bier upon which the body reposed. The hymns, "Held by My Father's Hand," and "Abide With Me," were beautifully sung by Mrs. A. A. HINMAN and S. R. WHITEHEAD, accompanied by Mrs. R. W. MARTIN, a fitting farewell to one whose life so perfectly embodied the sublime sentiments so expressed. The remains will be interred beside those of her husband in the Naval Cemetery at Bremerton, Washington, being accompanied by Mrs. C. P. SQUIRES, leaving on No. 8, Friday evening. Mary Annice McWhorter was born in Belvidere, Illinois, January 14, 1845, and her girlhood was spent in Illinois and Wisconsin. She was married to Capt. J. S. ANDERSON at New Lisbon, Wisconsin, in September, 1861, and for the honeymoon accompanied her husband to Milwaukee where he joined his regiment and left for the war. Four trying years followed before Capt. ANDERSON returned after having been through some of the greatest battles of the war and having been a prisoner for three months in Libby prison and 19 months in Andersonville prison where thousands of his fellows died of starvation and disease. After the war they lived in New Lisbon, Wisconsin, where were born the daughter, Delphine ANDERSON and the son, Wert F. ANDERSON. The family moved to Austin, Minnesota in 1874 and there Capt. ANDERSON was for some years master mechanic for the C. M. & St. P. Railroad. In 1887 they moved to Washington state where Capt. ANDERSON was engaged in construction work on the Northern Pacific tunnels. From 1888 to 1898 they lived in Seattle, Washington, and after that in Bremerton, Washington, where Capt. ANDERSON was in the navy yard until the time of his death. Mrs. ANDERSON came to Las Vegas in January, 1920, and made her home with her daughter, Mrs. C. P. SQUIRES until her death. Besides the daughter and son, there survive five grandchildren, Mrs. Florence S. DOHERTY and Charles Russell SQUIRES of Las Vegas; James W. SQUIRES of Los Gatos, California, and Herbert A. SQUIRES of Unionville, Nevada, and James ANDERSON of Toppenish, Washington; and five great-grandchildren, Alice, Annice, John and Charles DOHERTY of Las Vegas, and James SQUIRES, Jr., and Robert SQUIRES of Los Gatos, California.
