J. STEBENNE, Democratic nominee for the office of district attorney, returned last Wednesday from his visit to Denver, Colorado, where he was called by the accidental death of his brother, Larry. Larry STEBENNE was employed by the Denver Tramway Company as painting foreman, and had been called to a sub-plant to inspect some work that had been finished by one of his men, and while in the act of descending from the roof of the building he accidentally touched his arm against a wire carrying 13,000 volts, which was running along parallel to the top of the roof. He lived 14 hours after receiving the injury. Mr. STEBENNE's death will be extremely felt by his fellow working men, for it was Larry who, after being in the employment of the company but four months had caused the consolidation of several labor organizations which had in the past received no recognition from the company, and it was Larry who, after being elected chairman of a committee to visit the company in behalf of the brotherhood in an endeavor to secure the signature of the company for a closed shop. On the night just before he met his death, and after a two hours' session, he was successful in securing the signature of the company to an agreement recognizing the labor union and doing away with the open shop, which had been the policy of the company for many years. Labor lost a valuable member in the death of Larry STEBENNE. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/nvfiles/ File size: 2.0 Kb
