WENGERT, aged 56 years 5 months and 24 days. In the few words above is marked the span of a busy and useful life. Yet, although the Heavenly Father has seen fit to take from us one who was near and dear, one whom through his activities and kindly deeds had become an intimate and almost indespensable member of our community, Frank S. WENGERT will remain ever enshrined in our memories. He was born in Baveria, Germany, September 10, 1860 and at the age of nine years came with his parents to the United States. The family settled at Independence, Iowa where the father and mother lived until their death. In 1876 Frank removed to Austin, Minnesota where he entered the employ of the Chicago Milwaukee and St. Paul railroad. In Austin he met and won Miss Ella KENEVAN to whom he was wed in 1887, and through this union his life was crowned with a loving and faithful helpmate and a family of fine boys and girls all of whom were at his bedside to give him hope and comfort to the last. In 1906, Mr. WENGERT came to Las Vegas, bringing his family here the following year. He was first in the employ of the Armour car lines in the construction of the ice plant. Then, for several years he was superintendent of the Consolidated Power & Telephone Co. About a year ago he became manager for the Las Vegas Gas Company in which he had acquired an interest. The last illness of Mr. WENGERT lasted about two months and until the very moment of his death the family had hopes of his recovery although many of our citizens realized that the sufferer was marked for the grim reaper. Death came peacefully and painlessly and Frank WENGERT fell asleep. He leaves surviving him, besides his sorrowing widow, five children: Mildred (Mrs. Wm. MARSHALL), Cyril, Veronica, Louella (Mrs. V. C. HAM) and Delano. Also two brothers, Al WENGERT of Austin, Minn., and Will WENGERT of Independence, Iowa. The funeral was held Tuesday morning at the Catholic Church and the large number who gathered to pay their last respects to the mortal remains of Frank WENGERT was indicative of the high regard in which he was held by all. The floral tributes were wonderfully profuse and beautiful. Mass was said by Rev. Fr. O'GRADY who paid an eloquent tribute to the deceased. The music was very touching and beautiful and included the following numbers: solo, "Face to Face", by Mrs. PEMBROKE, "Ave Maria" by Mrs. BARLOW and "Somewhere the Sun is Shining" by Mrs. PEMBROKE, Mrs. BORSACK and Mr. HARKINS. The casket was bourn to its resting place, a concrete vault prepared for it in the City Cemetery, by members of the B.P.O.E., Mr. WENGERT having been a member of Goldfield Lodge. About 50 brother Elks acted as escort and thirty automobiles made up the funeral cortege. The bearers were: Messrs M. M. RILEY, John FAGAN, D. J. O'LEARY, Chas. FREEMAN, E. E. SMITH and W. E. SEARS. In the passing of our good friend and neighbor, a loving husband and father has been called to his reward and a helpful and kindly citizen has laid down his burden of life. With our hearts full of sympathy for the bereaved ones we can only say "Peace be unto you." This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/nvfiles/ File size: 3.7 Kb
