A. TAYLOR's saloon in Goodsprings, following a drinking bout in which a number of Italians were celebrating the New Year holiday, Peter PIANTONI stabbed Peter LORENZO in the abdomen. The wounded man lingered until 5 p.m. of the second when he died. The little bunch of countrymen had been enjoying a convivial time together and in their rounds of the various resorts in Goodsprings drank heavily. Some wordy trouble arose between LORENZO and PIANTONI during the evening with a considerable show of spirit on both sides. PAINTONI continued the disturbance in TAYLOR's place and was ejected from the house. A little later as the crowd lined up for a drink PIANTONI came back and stood at the end of the line, two men between him and LORENZI. After a moment or two, the murderer stealthily drew a knife from his coat pocket and reaching in front of the two men next to him, plunged the knife deep into the vitals of his victim. Sheriff Sam GAY, who fortunately happened to be in Goodsprings at that time, was immediately notified of the trouble. He soon found the assailant in Wm. BURKHART's place, BURKHART having succeeded in prevailing upon PIANTONI to come into his place and wait. PIANTONI was placed under arrest and brought by the Sheriff to the county jail. LORENZO realized that he had been seriously injured, for he said "I try to get home to see the wife and babies. Then I guess I die." He was taken home and saw the wife and little ones for the last time. In spite of the surgical skill of Dr. H. MC GARVEY, who was called to attend the stricken man, LORENZI died as the sun of January second dropped behind the hills. LORENZO was a partner in the Miners' Bar at Goodsprings with Tony ANDRINO a former resident of Vegas and well known here. The remains of the deceased were brought to Vegas and funeral services were held at the Undertaking Chapel of the Las Vegas Undertaking Co., Thursday. Interment was in the City cemetery. The deceased was 32 years of age and had a father and mother living in Italy. PIANTONI will have his preliminary hearing on the charge of murder before Judge P. H. SPRINGER today (Saturday).
