HARMON, was terribly burned Sunday evening at 7 o'clock from the effects of which she died at 3 o'clock Monday morning. She was lighting a gasoline stove by the aid of wood alcohol, when the bottle containing the wood alcohol and a small can of gasoline exploded, throwing the burning liquid over her clothing. In agony she ran out the door followed by all the members of the family. Just as she was rushing toward her mother, who was holding the baby in her arms, she was caught by Mr. W. E. ARNOLD, who lives next door, and who ran out when he heard the explosion. Mr. HARMON assisted by Mr. ARNOLD smothered the flames as quickly as possible, but not until the little girl was terribly burned over nearly the entire body. The sufferer was carried into the George JOHNSON home and given every possible assistance, but all in vain, death coming to her relief before the night was over. Mr. HARMON was painfully burned in extinguishing the flames. The house was but little damaged. The terrible accident has caused profound regret and grief throughout the community, Margaret being beloved by all who knew her. LAS VEGAS AGE 10/2/1915 (2nd article) DIED HARMON: - In this city, Monday morning, September 27th, Margaret Grace HARMON, beloved daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. B. HARMON, aged 12 years. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Frank SUMMERS of the Methodist church, Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The remains were shipped to San Bernardino, California for interment. Sad indeed, was last Sabbath evening when it was known that one of the dearest and fairest of the little maids who have so often cheered us with their happy laughter, lay dying an agonizing death. Through the night the dark angel hovered over the bedside and as dawn approached, the spirit of Margaret HARMON crossed the river. The deceased was a lovable child and a favorite among her companions. She was born April 8, 1903 and came to Las Vegas with her parents four years ago last May. She was a member of the First Christian church of San Bernardino, becoming such about a year ago. She was a very faithful and regular attendant at the Methodist Sunday school in this city and at the time she was burned, wore the beautiful pin given by the Sunday school for faithful attendance. She was also a constant attendant upon the Young People's Services of the church. She had just begun the seventh grade in the public schools. Her Sunday school class of which Mrs. HARKINS is the teacher, as well as her schoolmates, especially feel the sad loss. She leaves to mourn her, her father and mother, one brother and a baby sister of whom she was exceedingly fond. Accompanied by the sorrowing family, the remains were taken to San Bernardino Tuesday night and the funeral services held in the First Christian church, Wednesday, Rev. A. F. RONDHOUSE officiating. The remains were buried in the San Bernardino city cemetery. Words are inadequate to express the sorrow we all feel at the sad death of Margaret HARMON. Like a flower, she brightened the world, and she leaves behind her the fragrance of sweet memories. The sorrowing ones have the silent, heartfelt sympathy of all.
