HERMISTON DIES IN MODESTO HOSPITAL Rev. E. R. Hermiston, well known divine and of the Baptist Chapel Car, who spent last winter in this city establishing a church of the Baptist denomination, died suddenly in the hospital at Modesto, California, Friday, September 28. The cause of death is given as Spanish Influenza. Rev. Hermiston and his wife left here early in the summer, going to Shiloh, Ohio, where they spent about two months. They returned to Vegas about September 20, remaining here a few days until called in Los Angeles on business. While in Los Angeles, Rev. Hermiston was taken ill and went to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Albert Roan, at Waterford, Cal., near Modesto, on September 26. His condition was such that he was removed to the Modesto hospital where he died on the 28th. Rev. Hermiston was a man of rare qualities of mind and heart. He was devoted to his work and his congenial nature brought him close to men. Loyally supported by his talented wife, their work was power for good. On several occasions when he was a guest of the Rotary Club and other organizations in this city, Rev. Hermiston delighted his bearers by his wonderful humor combined with deep religeous feeling. He made many friends, who sincerely mourn his passing. The deceased left surviving him, his widow and an only child, Mrs. Albert Roen, to both of whom the deep sympathy of the entire community goes in full measure.
