She was 87. Hicks and her husband moved to Las Vegas in 1940 and built the El Cortez, followed in 1948 by the Thunderbird Hotel and later by the Algiers. She retired from business and civic activities several years ago. Born in July 12, 1907, in Clinton, Mo., she was a founding member of the Las Vegas Service League. She was active with Catholic schools and was a strong supporter of Bishop Gorman High School. She also was a founder of the Variety Club Auxiliary, which helped meet the needs of disabled children. She is survived by [omitted] Services will be 3-7 p.m. today and 11 a.m. Thursday at Palm Mortuary downtown. Burial will be in Palm Memorial Park.
