Hicks. Hicks, 57, died Sunday of cancer. Funeral services were held at Palm Mortuary with Msgr. William J. Devlin, a Roman Catholic priest officiating. Monsignor Devlin said Hicks was not a Catholic but that members of the church among Hicks relatives asked the priest to officiate. The casino was closed from noon to 7 p.m. Hotel spokesmen said the only other time the casino shut down was during remodeling last December. Hicks built the Thunderbird in 1948 - the fourth hotel on the Strip - and owned 72 per cent of it.
