THUNDERBIRD SHUT DOWN FOR RITES

	The gambling casino at the Thunderbird Hotel closed for the second 
time in its 13 year history Wednesday so that employees could attend the 
funeral of owner Marion B. Hicks.
	Hicks, 57, died Sunday of cancer.
	Funeral services were held at Palm Mortuary with Msgr. William 
J. Devlin, a Roman Catholic priest officiating.  Monsignor Devlin said Hicks 
was not a Catholic but that members of the church among Hicks relatives asked 
the priest to officiate.
	The casino was closed from noon to 7 p.m.
	Hotel spokesmen said the only other time the casino shut down was 
during remodeling last December.
	Hicks built the Thunderbird in 1948 - the fourth hotel on the Strip - 
and owned 72 per cent of it.
