Mr. Hicks was born in Joplin, Mo., on April 13, 1904. He was successful in a variety of business ventures in California and in 1941 he with a group of other men built and opened the El Cortez, then the El Rancho Vegas and the equally successful Last Frontier and Flamingo Hotels. In 1948 he opened the Thunderbird over which he maintained active control until his illness. Hicks also owned the Algiers, and built the Silver Palace, which has since been sold. Surviving him are [omitted]. Services are being arranged here by the Palm Mortuary.
