He was 61. "Kell" was born in Las Vegas, and got his early education in Switzerland at Le Rosey boarding school. Kell earned his bachelors degree from Yale University and his MBA from University of Southern California. After receiving his MBA, he worked for Arthur Anderson before starting his own consulting company. Later, he was appointed president and chief executive officer and board member of Showboat, Inc., where he carried on the family legacy until Showboat was acquired by Harrahs Resort. A visionary, he lead the Showboat executive development team from a single casino gaming company to a multiple-property empire including an international casino hotel in Sydney Australia. Kell met his wife Jennifer, a casino entertainer, at the Atlantic City Showboat, where they were married in 1996. Kell was a loving, compassionate husband to his wife, successful and devoted son to his parents, and role model to his siblings. To his friends, he will be remembered as an energizing, inspiring, spiritual and fun-loving companion. Kell's personal passions included playing music, skiing, reading, theater, and fine arts. Kell was pre-deceased by his dear mother, Jeanne Smith Stewart; and sister, Leslie Houssels. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer; father J. Kell Jr. and wife Nancy; siblings Josh, Kelly, and Eric; and nephew, Dane. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at the Gates Kingsley Mortuary Chapel, 1925 Arizona Ave., Santa Monica, CA 90404.
