He had retired the night before in his usual good health and his death was a shock to the entire community. The deceased was fifty-six years of age at the time of his death. His life has been an extremely active one and he was known as a straightforward man in all his dealings and a good fighter whenever the occasion required. He was born in Utah, and moved to Panaca, Nevada with his parents and there spent the years of his young manhood. It was here that he married his first wife, by whom he had two daughters. He was an expert at driving the great freight teams of from 16 to 20 animals and was a teamster at Bristol when that camp was in its glory and afterwards at Taylor, a camp in White Pine county. From Taylor he returned to Pioche, where he married his present wife, two daughters being the result of that union. He resided in Delamar during the great days of that camp and while residing there was elected sheriff of Lincoln county, holding that office for several terms, until he was defeated by O. H. SMITH. Since that date, he has been a deputy sheriff. Jake JOHNSON has many friends in Las Vegas and Clark county who sincerely regret his death. The funeral was held at Pioche Thursday, Rev. P. S. SMITHE, vicar of Christ Church of this city, officiating.
