LV SOCIALITE JONES DIES AT 71



Services for Oklabelle Malone Jones, widely known Las Vegas socialite who died 
Saturday night will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Palm Mortuary Chapel.  She was 
71.

Entombment will be in Palm Masoleum.

She was the former wife of Clifford Jones, Las Vegas attorney and former 
lieutenant governor.

She is survived by her son, Clifford, daughter, Joan Barrish and brother, Jack 
Malone; all of Las Vegas, sisters, Mrs. Marshall Mayfield, Alma Martin, Essie 
Lee Boyd and Frances England, all of California, and three grandchildren.

She was born April 15, 1911, in Willow, Okla., and spent her early years in 
Oklahoma, Texas and California.  She was on the staff of the Motion Picture 
Academy in Hollywood before moving to Las Vegas in 1941.

She was the first secretary hired by McNeil Construction Co. at the start of 
the Basic Magnesium plant construction in Henderson.

In the post-war era, she was noted as hostess in Las Vegas, entertaining 
political and business leaders as well as foreign visitors.

She was a charter member of the Service League of Las Vegas and of the 
auxiliary to the Variety Club.  She also was a contract bridge life master.

In ill health for the past nine months, she underwent surgery a month ago in 
Santa Barbara, Calif., and had been under nursing care at home.

Palm Mortuary is handling arrangements.
