She was born Dec. 26, 1937, in Providence, R.I. She was a resident of Las Vegas for 12 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Carole; her son, Thomas by a previous marriage; and by her husband, of 33 years, Paul Kaplan. Helen was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother (Mime) and friend. She is survived by a sister, Joyce; daughter, Gina Maze; son, Michael Kaplan; as well as 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by cousins; nieces; and nephews. She attended nurses school in Lompoc, Calif., and was an OR nurse in Santa Maria, Calif. Helen was an instructor/trainer at Intel Corporation in Rio Rancho, N.M. Helen was a passionate, supporting member of the Red Hat Society and Queen Mum (Helen Hayes) of the Las Vegas "Red Hat Show Girls." A Red Hat celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Her greatest joy was her family and all "Red Hatters." Helen's strength, courage, class, intelligence, wittiness could not go unnoticed. We will miss her everyday, but know the angels have taken her home to a better place. Interment will be in Cranston, R.I. Services will be private.
