MaryBelle Hendrix Perkins, 79, died June 19, 2007, from an inoperable massive subdural hematoma following a backwards fall as she was ascending the stairs in her home. She passed away peacefully in the presence of her husband and children. She was born in East Ely, April 6, 1928, the daughter of Orvil and Tirza Hendrix. She, with her family moved to Moapa Valley from McGill, as an 18 year old where she worked as a telephone operator in the early days of the Moapa Valley Telephone Company and as a secretary for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. MaryBelle was married June 18, 1949, to Eugene (Gene) Hafen Perkins in the St. George Temple. Together they raised 10 wonderful children; five born in Utah and five born in Tennessee: Gene Alan Perkins, Cherie Perkins, Kathy (Joe) Turner, Craig Perkins, Janet (Lane) Swenson, Michael (Susanna) Perkins, Darryl (Marti) Perkins, Bradley (Karen) Perkins, Lisa (Kevin) Coburn, and James (Jessica) Perkins. She has 39 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who love her and will miss her dearly. MaryBelle was a very special person who touched many people with her passion for life, love of family, and service to others. She was a vital force with her husband in pioneering LDS church growth and progress in East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, and Northern Georgia from 1958 until 1985. MaryBelle worked tirelessly in her local units, first in the Oak Ridge Branch and later the Oak Ridge Ward, simultaneously holding multiple positions. In 1985, she moved with her husband to Provo, Utah, where she was an inspiration to all with her long battle of failing health, never giving up. Besides her immediate family she is survived by her sisters, Lolita Frehner and Joan (Ronald) Jorgenson; and brother, Scott (Colleen) Hendrix, along with many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at the Pleasant View 8th Ward (Sharon East Stake Center), 1060 East 2400 North, Provo. Friends may call at the church from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment and graveside services will be at 7 p.m. (Nevada time) Saturday, June 23, at the Pioneer Hill Memorial Cemetery in Overton. "Sweetheart, all of our hearts are breaking, but we know that you are now free and at peace. We miss you more than words can express. Please watch over us."
