Mr. and Mrs. SPENCER were spending the afternoon with Mrs. HAUCK at the ranch. The little boy was playing happily with his dog, when of a sudden the dog came running and whining as though to tell of trouble. Mr. SPENCER at once followed the animal to the swimming pool, and there in the shallow water, face down, was the form of the little one. The inert body was taken from the water instantly and every effort made to induce respiration, but without success. Dr. MARTIN arrived on the scene within ten minutes of the time the body was discovered and worked desperately in the hope of bringing back the precious spark of life, but without avail. It was found that there was an abrasion on the back of the head as if from a blow and it is believed that John fell striking his head against the cement wall of the pool. Being rendered unconscious by the blow, he made no struggle or noise when he fell in to the pool and drowned in water so shallow that he could have easily regained his feet and been safe ordinarily. The funeral was held at the Lloyd D. SMITH undertaking parlors Monday afternoon, the members of the Ladies of the Maccabees order--of which Mrs. SPENCER is a member--attending in a body. Rev. Father REYNOLDS conducted the funeral services of the Catholic church, after which the casket containing the remains was carried to the depot by loving hands, escorted by many sorrowful friends. The interment was made at Calvary cemetery in Los Angeles. The sympathy of all Las Vegas goes out to the stricken parents in the loss of their only remaining child. The little fellow was beautiful and lovable and the loss of his loving hands and childish voice is a blow to the parents too hard almost, to bear. Sweet as the breath of a flower, the soul of the child takes its flight, breaking our hearts in the going; yet leaving with us the memory of a beautiful and trustful love which shall remain to make clear to us the great realities of life and death and the life eternal beyond.
