The town is located in an excellent agricultural district, the most of the surrounding country being under irrigation. The Virginia & Truckee Ry has a line to Minden, 1 mile distant. Has a private bank and general store, both occupying substantial brick buildings, several hotels, Lutheran and Methodist churches. A weekly newspaper, the Recorder-Courier, is published here.
