He died at Elko Sunday. Mr. Murphy came to this coast in 1844 in company with the father and brothers. They were all very prominent men and figure very prominently in the early history of California. He was the largest land owner in the world. The Gazette last year, gave a long and interesting account of his life from 1844. The article was extensively copied by the Eastern press and it found its way into several English papers. Mr. Murphy was greatly annoyed for several months by receiving letters from nearly every nation asking him to contribute to this and that. He died very wealthy, and leaves a history that any young man can read and profit by. His life was spent on the frontier and is full of interesting and thrilling adventures. His remains were taken to Sacramento and from thence to San Jose by special train. The funeral will take place to-morrow and mother earth will fold in her bosom the mortal remains of one of Nevada’s best citizens.
