G. Case, a pioneer residen to Winnemucca, died at five o'clock this morning following a stroke of paralysis. Mrs. Case was stricken suddenly with paralysis yesterday. While making a bed she called to her husband and one of her sons and told them her left arm was paralyzed. They rushed to her assistance and helped her to a chair. A few minutes afterward her left side was stricken with paralysis and about five minutes afterward she was unable to speak and soon became unconscious. Her life all through the remainder of the day hung by a thread, no sign of improvement being apparent. Mrs. Case is survived by a husband, W.G. Case, and six sons, a daughter and a little grandson. The sons are Shep Case, who was interested in the Nevada State Journal before its present owner bought it; Chauncey, Lee, Ralph, Will, and Frank, the latter four being at home; the daughter is Mrs. Eva Mills of Minden and the little grandson is her son, Phil Kenyon. Four of Mrs. Case's boys were in the army. Fred is in Wyoming. Mrs. Case came to Winnemucca in 1874 as a bride and has lived her continuously. She was born in Southern California and lived during her girlhood at Santa Barbara. She was one of the survivors of the old Spanish family of Ortega, a family of preminence in the early days of California. A story is told by old-times of Winnemucca- the details of which seem to have been forgotten after so many years- of Mrs. Case having been heir to vast land estates and other properties of considerable value in and around what is now the city of Santa Barbara. Mrs. Mills, the daughter, was notified by wire and arrived last night. No arrangements have been made for the funeral.
