Bishop and attendants: A private communication yesterday informs us, for the first time, that Robert Hope, an old-time Humboldt and a member of the G.A.R., died at the Nevada Insane Asylum, at an uncertain date, and received interment not fit for a canine. Bob, as he was familiarly known, was committed to the asylum some three years ago because of temporary insanity brought on by long and continued isolation from society. He had many warm friends in this county who, had they been notified of his death, would have given him a burial commemorate with his position as a citizen and a member of the G. A. R. Very likely the poor fellow died because he was not provided with sufficient clothing to cover his nudeness. Poor old William Bone, who tramped up here from Reno a year or so ago, was clad in apparel that would not bring a five cent piece in any market in the world. Mr. Hope likely enjoyed a similar wardrobe. The Nevada Insane Asylum gets the benefit of a severe rebuke from Humboldt county, and more than likely it is as rotten an institution as the asylum in Chicago, whose vice and cruelty were recently brought to view by a person who suspected that all was not as it should be. An investigation should be made at Reno, and if the poor unfortunates are treated as we are informed Bob Hope was, those implicated in such treatment should be tarred and feathered and ridden on a rail, and their very existence crushed in the burning depths of hell.
