Starting at the junction of US Route 93 and Nevada State Route 318, the cemetery can be found by traveling north on Nevada highway 318 for six miles. Turn right or east on the Cannon Ranch Road which is a dirt road and travel on it for .5 miles. When you get near ranch buildings and equipment the road will fork. Take the fork to the left which heads northeast and goes up a small hill to the top of the hill about .05 miles from the fork. Here you will find the Hiko Cemetery. The oldest currently marked grave in this cemetery is 1876. There were a total of 107 obvious graves in this cemetery as of 4/1/2007. 35 are not marked in any currently legible way; two of these were recently created and will most likely get tombstones soon. Among the 33 older unmarked graves it is very possible that there are graves that were created up to ten years prior to 1876. It is well known that horse and/or cattle thieves were caught and hung nearby in the late 1800s and it is believed that they were buried here in unmarked graves. Also at a native American Indian camp near Hiko there was a fight among drunk Indians and several were killed and the camp was abandoned. The local white settlers may have buried the dead Indians in this cemetery. The cemetery is well fenced and reasonably well cared for (except a few weeds) even though there is no grass. Listed below in alphabetic order are 72 tombstones with legible inscriptions. One of these however is not a grave but a memorial of Irene Walch Simmers whose ashes are located in Needle Rock, Colorado. ********************************************************************************************* NAME BORN DIED OTHER INFORMATION B BRYANT, Emery 'Leon' 9/12/1935 11/1992 BRYANT, Shirley Jean 5/1943 5/1943 C CANO, Betty Webster 11/9/1916 2/25/1994 Born McIntosh, MN; Died Pahrump, NV CASE, Sam 8/4/1919 CASTLES, Carrie F. 1875 1958 CASTLES, James 1875 1930 COCHRAN, Ronald C. 8/11/1945 10/18/1992 Married 6/12/1970; ssw Sherida L.
