Daily Nevada State Journal December 31, 1884
Death of a Pioneer.
S. S. Buckland, an old and well-known rancher of the Carson river, near Fort
Churchill, died last Saturday.  Mr. Buckland came to this region in 1857, and
remained in the country until the day of his death.  He was a native of Ohio,
and aged 58 years.  He recently sold his ranch, near Fort Churchill, for
$45,000, and intended going back to Ohio to end his days in his native land.  He
leaves three sons.
