C. Hazlett took place at Dayton last Sunday. There was a large attendance of Masons and Odd Fellows, the deceased having been a prominent member of both societies. The funeral services were conducted under the auspices of the Grand Lodge of F. & A.M. of which deceased was Grand Master at the time of his death. A special communication of the Grand Lodge was held, the following Grand officers officiating: D.W. Virgin, Senior Grand Warden, Acting Grand Master; P.A. Doyle, Senior Grand Warden; Albin Lackey, Junior Grand Warden; Henry L. Fish, Grand Treasurer; C. N. Noteware, Grand Secretary; L.L. Crockett, Grand Chaplain; W. D. Jones, Grand Marshall; C. H. Galusha, Grand Standard Bearer; W.W. Stephens, Grand Sword Bearer; J.L. Campbell, Grand Bible Bearer; E.D. Kelley, Senior Grand Deacon; B. H. Reymers, Junior Grand Deacon; Joseph Sparks and C.H. Colburn, Grand Stewards; J.H. Hepworth, Grand Organist; Matthew Kyle, Grand Pursuivant; Adolph Jacobs, Grand Tyler. The Grand Lodge escorted by De Witt Clinton Commandary Knights Templar of Virginia City in full uniform, Dayton Lodge I.O.O.F. in regalia, and Rebekah Lodge of Dayton marched in procession to the Court House, where the body of the dead Grand Master lay in state. The floral tributes were numerous, the deceased being a general favorite in the town in which he had lived for over thirty years. The religious services were conducted by the Presbyterian minister from Virginia City, after which the Masonic rites were performed. The pall bearers were W. J. Warren, Emanuel King, Walter J. Harris, Wm. McMillan, M.A. Murphy and W.J. Westerfield, two of who wore the Templar uniform. The procession, headed by the commandery, formed in front of the Court House, the entire population of Dayton turning out, the school forming a special feature. At the grave the solemn ritual of the Masonic Fraternity was read by the Grand Master and the mortal remains of D. J.C. Hazlett were consigned to the tomb, the children covering the coffin with flowers.
