MINA Eventhough Mina was late to arrive on the mining scene, it never the less became an important mining area. Founded in 1905, it was to become a major railroad division point for the Southern Pacific Railroad. The trains would handle ore from the mines in numerous directions from Mina. Silver, Lead, Copper, Gold, Tungsten and other ores were mined from the Mina area. Another railroad using narrow gauge tracks went west from Mina into California via Belleville. The first permanent occupants of Mina were railroad employees as well as those working the mines and running the various service related businesses. It is supposed that the name came from a railroad boss' daughter named Wilhelmina, but this is has not been documented. The cemetery on the north edge of town is large and almost filled. There are many unmarked mounds within the cemetery fence and many graves are marked with permanent rock or marble headstones.
