Born Sept. 27, 1934, in Den Haag, Holland, he came to the United States by way of working his passage on a Holland America cruise ship. After briefly working at the famous Montauk Manor Hotel in Montauk, Long Island, he traveled west arriving in Las Vegas, where he was a 28-year resident. Dirk met his first wife, Rosalie, and raised two wonderful daughters. He worked as a maitre d' at the original Aladdin Hotel in the showroom and later obtained his brokerage license to sell real estate. The family then moved to Post Falls, Idaho, where Dirk built several spec homes before returning to Las Vegas. After a divorce, he moved to Los Angeles, eventually settling in the Palisades, where he met and married Melissa Grant and had a son, DJ - a family he adored. When he wasn't busy working or spending time with his family, he indulged in his favorite pastime of photography. Dirk is survived by his wife, Melissa; their son DJ; as well as his daughter, Lisa; grandson, Nicolaas, both of Ashland, Ore.; daughter, Tina; and grandson, Donovan, both of Las Vegas. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Mar. 11, at Kehillat Israel, 16019 W. Sunset Blvd., Pacific Palisades, CA 90272, (310) 459-2328.
