The Carson Tribune, of Monday evening says: During Saturday afternoon Miss Lampmann asked leave of her mother to accompany some lady friends to Shaws’ Springs, agreeing to be home by 5 o’clock. Permission was granted. It seems that she did not return home until near 8 o’clock, and had been escorted home by Curtis Wright. The mother appears to have been a little annoyed at her failure to arrive at the appointed time and was on the lookout, and on her arrival spoke a little sharply and told her to go into the house quickly, accelerating her speed into the house with a slight push. Shortly afterward the girl told her mother she had swallowed a dose of laudanum, and that she (her mother) would not have another opportunity of upbraiding her before a young gentleman. The mother paid no attention to the remark thinking it merely a foolish threat calculated to scare her. Later on the girl became acting strange and flighty, stating that there was a man dressed in black after her with a knife, and then fell on the bed in a stupefied condition. The mother then came to a realizing sense that her daughter had swallowed the fatal draught. Two physicians were called to the girl’s assistance, but too late to save her life, as the poison had been absorbed and had spread through her whole system. The doctors did all in their power to save the girl, but she died about 4 o’clock Sunday morning. When it was too late Miss Lampman told her mother she was sorry that she took the drug. She earnestly appealed to the physicians to save her life. The mother is almost heart-broken, but is not to blame by her friends and neighbors for what she did. Miss Lampman was born at Oakland, California. Her father was accidentally drowned in the Sacramento river thirteen years ago. The girl was very handsome and was highly esteemed by all who knew her.
