Deceased had been suffering for several weeks and was brought to his death by a sudden attack of pneumonia. The name of Hank Monk was known in every household in the land. As stage driver over the Placerville route, deceased was known to every man, woman and child along the road. He was a jovial fellow in his peculiar dry way, and passed many a joke at the expense of his passengers. Deceased was born at Waddington, N.Y. and was about 55 years of age. During his illness he was carefully attended by the wife of his employer and fast friend, Doc Benton, and everything possible was done to ease the dying moments of an old and valued servant.
