Funeral of J. C. Hampton

The funeral of the late J. C. Hampton took place yesterday afternoon in
Virginia.  The cortege was the largest ever seen on the Comstock, every
available horse and vehicle being called into requisition.  During the obsequies
the business houses, including the banks and brokers’ offices, were closed, and
nearly all of the people of Virginia who could do so accompanied the procession
to the cemetery or attended the services at the Masonic hall.
