Death of Dr. Holmes
Dr. Holmes, the well known Virginia City dentist died Monday at the German
Hospital, San Francisco, of dropsy.  He was sent to said hospital some weeks ago
from Reno by the Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias, in the hope that he could
be cured.  It is stated that he was tapped Monday, and died soon after the
operation was performed.  Deceased was a native of Kingston, Canada, and was
fifty-five years of age.  He was a member of Mount Davidson Lodge No. 7,
I.O.O.F., of Lincoln Lodge No. 6, K. of P., and of the Pacific Coast Pioneers. 
He formerly resided at Coloma, California, but has been on the Comstock for many
years.  He leaves many friends, both in Nevada and in California, to mourn his
death.
