Another Sad Suicide- About 9 o’clock Wednesday morning, says the Enterprise,
August G. Koch, one of the best known among the old residents and business men
of Virginia City, committed suicide by shooting himself through the heart with a
pistol.  Deceased was a tinsmith and plumber by trade, forty-nine years of age,
and has been a resident of Virginia for over twenty years.  He leaves a wife and
three children.  Business has been dull with him for some time, so that, even
with the assistance of his wife, who went out nursing to help earn bread for
their little family, it was hard to get along, and a little assistance from
friends was occasionally required.  He was a native of Germany, of a genial,
kindly disposition and of unquestionable business integrity and active industry,
but of late his hard struggle to get along has made him very despondent at
times.  The immediate cause of the fatal act was an attachment being served upon
him for a small sum, which he thought involved the breaking up of his little
business, and it being his first experience of the clutches of the law in that
way he lost all courage at once and preferred death to any futher struggle
against fate.  Deceased was a member of Nevada Lodge No. 1, Knights of Pythias,
belonging to the Endowment Rank, therefore his family are entitled to receive
$3,000, which will be of material benefit in their sad distress and bereavement.
