Death of a Former Comstocker
Lee McGowan, a former resident of the Comstock, died in San Francisco on the
25th instant.  He held a number of offices here and was later a deputy sheriff
under Dan Donovan.  While Kelly was sheriff in 1874, Larkin, who killed a man on
Barbary Coast, was hanged and while McGowan was preparing the man for his doom,
coolly smoked a cigar, while the rest of the crowd was in a very nervous state.
