Another Whiskey Victim
Last evening’s Virginia Chronicle says: About 6 o’clock yesterday morning James
Hannigen was found dying in his house in the rear of the Justice Court at Gold
Hill.  Medical and was immediately summoned and everything done to alleviate his
sufferings until 11 o’clock last night, when death ensured.  Deceased was a
native of the State of Virginia aged 56 years.  He was married but separated
from his wife some years ago.  He was an old resident of the Comstock and was
formerly employed as a teamster in Gold Hill, but has been out of work for more
than two years, and during that time has drunk to excess Coroner Miot viewed the
remains this morning, and reports that the physicians attribute his death to
alcoholism.
