In 1862 and resided on her ranch at Glendale for many years, passed away at her home on the Alt ranch this morning about 1 o’clock, after being an invalid for a number of years. Her death was not unexpected and when the end came her niece, Mrs. Mamie Dickey, her grand niece Veronica Dickey and friends were present. Mrs. Alt was born in Coochill, County of Cavanil Ireland, and died at the age of 74 years, 5 months and 13 days. She went to Boston from her native land at the age of 10 years and in 1863 traveled from Boston to San Francisco by way of the Isthmus of Panama. In 1862 she came to Nevada and located at Virginia City and in 1867 married the late George Alt and settled at Glendale and from then until the time of her death made her home at Glendale. The deceased was a splendid example of the early pioneers of this state. She made the best of the early conditions of the state when hardships were frequent and took a great interest in the upbuilding of this commonwealth. Mrs. Alt was a woman of wonderful energy despite the fact that she was an invalid for a number of years. She was never heard to complain of her health and until the last took a deep interest in all the affairs of this state and nation. She was charitable to an extreme and always made her home the embodiment of hospitality. She was a Roman Catholic and always took a deep interest in church affairs, doing perhaps as much as any other individual to advance the Roman Catholic religion in this state. Mrs. Alt is survived by a son and daughter, a niece, Mrs. Mamie Dickey, and a grand niece, Veronica Dickey. Mrs. Dickey and Miss Veronica Dickey were with her when declining years and with her legion of friends ministered to her and gratified her every wish. Enrolled among the number of Nevada’s splendid pioneers is no greater name than that of Susan C. Alt, truly it can be said that she was one of nature’s noble women, always true to her God, her native land and her adopted Nevada. Alt-In Glendale, Jan. 16, 1912, Susan Alt, beloved mother of Sarah and James and aunt of Mrs. Mamie Dickey, aged 74 years, 5 months and 14 days. Native of Ireland.
