Elkins of Reno found dead at Indian Springs Thursday morning. Woodford W. Elkins, traveling over the Southern Nevada desert in a Ford car, hunting, trapping and camping, was found dead at Indian Springs Thursday morning, January 31. He arrived at the house of Timothy Harnady at Indian Springs about four o'clock Wednesday afternnon and asked to be permitted to sleep in a house near by. Permission was granted. About six o'clock, Elkins again appeared at the Harnady house and got some oil. About nine o'clock in the evening, the Harnady dog, which had been turned out for the night, howled and barked to such an extent that he was again taken into the house and allowed to remain. In the morning Frank Buol, who was also stopping at the Harnedy house, went out the front porch and observed the body of Elkins lying on the ground about 30 feet distant. A pool of blood was under the body and a trail of blood led from the place where Elkins was staying to the place where the body lay, indicating that he had been taken with a hemorrhage and had fallen before he was able to reach help. John E. Merrit drove to Vegas and notified the authorities. Coroner Lillie, Under Sheriff Frank Wall and Undertaker W. I. Roberts went to Indian Springs, investigated the circumstances and brought the body in. A notebook carried by Mr. Elkins asked that in case of acident his wife, Mrs. Viola L. Elkins, 37 High Street, Reno, be notified. A message to her brought the request that his body be embalmed and shipped to Reno. Shipment will be made today. The deceased had a Ford car with a small room built on it and a good camping outfit. It is said that he had been ill for a long time and was seeking health in the outdoor life.
