Horace M. Vesey, aged 60 years Col. Vesey was born in Vermont, July 7, 1815. At an early age he moved to Ohio, thence after a few years to Michigan. There, in 1842, he took to himself the partner of a life, one who has shared the trials and triumphs of 34 long years, rejoicing in prosperity, and sympathizing in his misfortunes. When the gold fever broke out in 1849, Col. Vesey began to look westward, and on Jan. 1st, 1851, he landed in San Francisco, thus joining himself to that little band of pioneers who worked and suffered to enrich the world. He held several offices of trust, acquitting himself with honor in each instance. Of his life along the Comstock it is hardly necessary to speak- the respect accorded him by his associates is a sufficient commentary. Col. Vesey was a member of Chapter No.3, F.&A.M., of Virginia, and De Witt Clinton Commandery of Knight Templars, beside other Orders. His brother Knights attended his remains to their resting place, and expression of their respect for one who was a knight, in the true sense, with whom honor was life; who knew the right, and knowing dared maintain. Life is given and it is taken away. The time must come to all when we shall pass away, each to his own place. There is consolation for his affectionate wife and son, in reviewing a long life of integrity and usefulness. A circle of friends will miss him, let them realize that an honest life is sure of its reward. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/nvfiles/ File size: 2.0 Kb
