Reno Evening Gazette October 21, 1885
A Supposed Fatal Shot

Last evening a telegram was received from Bodie saying that James Madden had
been shot in the neck while resisting an officer and it was thought he could not
live.  At midnight another dispatch was received saying that Madden was dying. 
His brother William left for Bodie this morning.  The whole family is terribly
distressed by the sad news.

James Madden died at Bodie yesterday morning at 4:30.  His remains will be
brought to Reno for interment.
