A. Mann died last evening at about 7 o’clock, after an illness of some weeks. His ailment was dropsy, and although his friends knew the end was near, the sturdy Major did not countenance the suggestion, and treated all fears which came to his notice with a smile. He had been unconscious two days previous to his death, and it is believed that he suffered very little pain in his last hour. Major S. A. Mann was admitted to the bar in the State of New York, he has been Secretary and acting Governor of Utah, and at different times Clerk and Deputy Clerk of Washoe City and Eastern Nevada, a partner of Tom Fitch, the silver tongued, and in general was a man of infinitely more ability than those who complain of his personal habits. Whatever secrets may have been locked within the Major’s breast, the world will never know, but his friends can say that he had a good and generous heart, and his talents were much higher than the average. The honest man will bid the departed hail and farewell, and the curs who prowl about graveyards from fear of the living, had better look to their own deformities. There is another grave in the dead city and another place in life is vacant. It is well if the dead man’s traducers can equal his charity and forbearance towards his fellow men. May he rest in the unseen beyond. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/nv/washoe/obits/mann1622gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/nvfiles/ File size: 2.0 Kb
