He was engaged in a quiet conversation with Dr. Bergman, and was pacing the floor, holding a glass in his hand, when suddenly he clapped his hand on his heart, exclaiming, "Oh, my God! Go and get a Doctor!" and immediately falling to the floor, breathed his last. Heart disease was undoubtedly the cause of the sudden and unexpected ending of an eventful life. The Dr. has only been a resident of Reno a few weeks, having removed here from Virginia, the altitude of the latter place being too high for him. Under the gentle influences of Reno climate he was soon much improved in health, and had often expressed his satisfaction at the change. His demise will cause deep regret and sorrow to those who knew him, and especially to those old Pioneers of whom he was the pet, having been President of the Society till a recent date. The remains of Dr. McMeans were last night placed in charge of undertaker Sanders, and the body packed in ice. Members of the Pioneer Society, and other friends will be down from Virginia this morning, and decide as to the disposition of his remains, and make the necessary arrangements for the funeral.
