Metcalf died suddenly in this city late yesterday afternoon at the home of her son, O.U. Metcalf, traveling freight and passenger agent for the Southern Pacific company. Mr. Metcalf was absent at the time in southern Nevada on official business, but will return tonight. His mother’s death came unexpectedly, although she had been ill for some time, having suffered a stroke of paralysis several months ago while traveling in the east. Upon receipt of the news of her illness Mr. and Mrs. Metcalf immediately went east and, after the aged lady’s health permitted, they brought her back to Reno to reside with them. Mrs. Metcalf is survived by her husband, Thernon Metcalf, and by her son, O.U. Metcalf. She was aged 66 years 3 months and 11 days and was a native of Michigan. Arrangements for her funeral will be made as soon as her son arrives from the south. July 26, 1912 Funeral Services to Be Held On Sunday The funeral of the late Mrs. Emily Teressa Metcalf, wife of Thereon Metcalf, will take place from the residence of her son, O.U. Metcalf, 761 North Center street, Sunday morning at 3 o’clock sharp. There will be a combination service. Prayer and a brief sermon will be delivered by Rev. Brewster Adams, and there will be Christian Science readings. The services at the grave will be conducted by the Order of Rebekahs. Interment will be in Mountain View cemetery. Daily Nevada State Journal July 27, 1912 Mrs. Metcalf Buried Sunday Mother of Prominent Railroad Official Will Be Laid to Rest The funeral services over the remains of Mrs. Emily T. Metcalf, who died in this city Wednesday afternoon will be held tomorrow morning at 8 o’clock, from the home of her on, O.C. Metcalf at 761 North Center street, Rev. Brewster Adams officiating, assisted by the local lodge of Rebeckahs. Mrs. Metcalf, whose home is in Michigan where she is survived by her husband. Thernon Metcalf, came to Reno the 3rd of July is an attempt to regain her failing health. She had been here eight months ago but returned to Michigan after she had apparently recovered. She was 66 years of age at the time of her death. She leaves a son here, O.U. Metcalf, who is traveling freight and passenger agent for the Southern Pacific.
