(Pat) Pettipiece of Gardnerville, veteran typographical union member, died at the Carson-Tahoe hospital Thursday night following a short illness. He was 66. Mr. Pettipiece had been employed at the state printing office for the last four years. Prior to that, after coming to Nevada in the late 1920's he had worked on the Gardnerville Record-Courier, the Carson City Appeal, the Nevada State Journal where he had served as forman of the composing room, A. Carlisle and Co., and for many years at the Reno Printing Company. He also had been employed on newspapers in California. Last year he was an unsuccessful candidate for the Democratic nomination for the office of state printer. Mr. Pettipiece was past president of Reno Local 6611 of the International Typographical Union and at the time of his death was a member of Washoe Local 65 in Carson City. A few years ago Mr. Pettipiece went to Vancouver, B.C. when his late father was presented with a 50-year pin by the Typographical Union. At the same time Mr. Pettipiece was awarded his 40-year pin in the union, giving father and son a combined union membership record of 90 years. Mr. Pettipiece was born in Edmonton, Alta., Canada June 22, 1896. He was educated in the schools at Edmonton and later at Vancouver. During World War I he served with the Canadian Army and later came to the United States where he acquired citizenship. A little more then 10 years ago Mr. Pettipiece was stricken with cancer of the throat, He underwent an operation for removal of his larnyx but soon was able to again speak and resume his old profession. He was regarded as one of the best linotype operators and machinists in Nevada and the West. Mr. Pettipiece long had been active in Masonic orders and was past master of the Fernley Lodge, F&AM. He also was a member of the Royal Arch Masons, Scotish rite and Shrine. He is survived by {omitted} Masonic funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1:30pm from the Capital city Mortuary in Carson city under the Direction of Fernley Lodge, F&AM. burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery in Reno.
