WALTER PICKERELL DIES FOLLOWING ACCIDENT

   City Councilman Walter Pickerell, who was injured Monday night 
in a collision with an automobile driven by Joe Gardella on the South 
Virginia road, died at 12:30 o'clock this morning without regaining 
consciousness.  The funeral will probably be held Friday afternoon.
   Fracture of the base of his skull was the cause of Pickerell's death, 
according to Dr. S. K. Morrison who attended the injured man.

   "The injury was of a fatal nature and so terrible that the result was 
inevitable" the doctor stated today.

   Pickerell was councilman from the First ward.  He was born and raised 
in this county, spending his boyhood on a ranch north of Reno.  At one 
time he was a fireman on the railroad, but an accident that cost him 
the sight of one eye caused him to leave railroading and he became a 
stationary engineer, working in various parts of the county.  At the 
time of his death he was connected with the state highway department 
and was handling the heavy steam rollers used in the department's work 
on the South Virginia road.

   It was while on his return from his work south of the city that 
Pickerell, riding a motorcycle, collided with Gardella, who was driving 
ahead of him.  Gerdella explains the accident by the statement that just 
before he turned into Holcomn Lane on his way home, he heard Pickerell 
honk the motorcycle horn and put out his hand before making the turn 
into the lane.  Pickerell's motorcycle ran into the side of the automobile.  
Pickerell was immediately brought to a hospital and Dr. Morrison and 
Dr. West were called in to handle the case. 

   Pickerell was forty-four years old and was born next door to the 
house on Humboldt street in which he was living at the time of his death.  
The widow, two brothers, Fred and William, a nephew, M. L. Millsaps, 
and a cousin, I. L. Millsaps, all of Reno, survive him.

PICKERELL - In Reno, November 3, 1920, Walter, husband of Constance 
Pickerell, brother of Fred Pickerell and William Parsons, nephew of 
M. L. Millsaps and cousin of I. L. Millsaps of Reno, a native of 
California, aged 44 years.

   Friends are invited to attend funeral services at the chapel of 
the Perkins-Culling(?) Company, tomorrow, Friday afternoon at two o'clock.  
Rev. Brewster Adams officiating.  Interment Mt. View cemetery.
