Every railroad man who can get away from his work and every old time Elk will make it a point to be at the Elks’ Home to show respect for the memory of one of the bbest known men on this division. “Dad” died at his home in Sparks on Saturday night, where he had resided ever since going on the Southern Pacific pension roll for long service. All the Wadsworth people knew him and hardly anybody in Sparks was not acquainted personally with one of the most genial, friendly men in the railroad business. J.A. Ross was a veteran passenger engineer on the Salt Lake division of the Southern Pacific. His start in railroading was as a fireman on the Oregon Short line and his promotion after that was steady. He was considered during his active service to be one of the most trustworthy engineers on the road. Pennsylvania was his native state and he was 68 years old when he died, with most of his family of eight children present in his last hours. The funeral will take place on Wednesday from the Elks’ Home and the services will be conducted by the Elks and by the railroad men. He was a member of Ogden lodge of Elks and of Sparks lodge No. 150 of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and the pallbearers will be selected from these two fraternities. Dearly beloved father of Joseph of Elgin, Utah, James T. of New York, Egbert P. of Ogden, Frank A. of Guam, P.I. and Harold Ross of Sparks, and Mrs. Annie M. Howland of Elgin, Utah, Mrs. Florence Kindstrom of Richmond, Cal., Mrs. Jennie K. Sharp of Angeles, Cal., a member of Sparks lodge No. 150, B. of L.E., and Ogden, Utah, lodge of B.P.O. Elks, and Ogden Post, G.A.R. Aged 67 years, 11 months 25 days. Native of Pennsylvania. Funeral services to be held from the Elks’ Home Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock under the auspices of Reno lodge No.597, B.P.O.E. Friends may view the remains until Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock at the chapel of Groesbeck & O’Brien. Interment Mt. View cemetery.
