Schafer Called by Death Prominent Woman and Old Nevadan Passes Away at Midnight at Ranch After a long period of illness and at the advanced age of 78 years, Mrs. Margaret Schaffer, an old-time resident of Reno, passed away just before 1 o’clock last night at her ranch home on Wedekind road. Most of her large family of prominent men and women who have figured largely in the life of Reno were at her bedside. Death came quietly at a quarter to twelve, the wonderful woman who had fought so long passing peacefully beyond the gate of eternity. Mr. Schaffer was the widow of George Schaffer, who died here in 1903, the family having come to Nevada twenty-four years ago. They constituted one of the most prominent families of the state. The deceased is survived by two sons, William Schaffer of Willetts, Cal. And George Schaffer, Jr., of Reno. There are also five surviving daughters, Mrs. Emma Irish of Thalheim, Stanislaus county, Mrs. Florence Jacobs of San Francisco, Mrs. Mary Barton, Mrs. Susie Barton and Mrs. Minnie Volentia of Reno. The remains were brought to the city last night by the Perkins-Gulling Undertaking company and it is probable that arrangements will be made for interment Monday.
